  • WAP 2 (Decommissioned in the late 1980s. Similar to WAM2 & 3. 4 built. Also had Flexicoil Mark -ll bogies. 2910 hp. Only 4 units built)
  • WAP 3 (Rebuilt to WAP-1. Similar to WAP-1. Approximated speed of 160 kmph, Maximum permissible speed 140 kmph. 5 Built since 1987.)
  • WAP 4 (Upgraded from WAP 1 for higher loads by Chittaranjan locomotive works in 1994. One of the most successful locomotives in India. Very powerful class. 6000 hp maximum, 5500 hp continuous. Tested for Max speed 200 kmph. Maximum permissible speed 140 kmph)
  • WAP 5 (Imported in 1995 from Switzerland and used on premier express trains. Being built by CLW since 2000. 6000 hp maximum, 5540 hp continuous. Highly powerful class. Bo-Bo type locos. Max speed tested for 200 kmph. Maximum permissible speed 160 kmph.)
  • WAP 6 (Most of them rebuilt to WAP-4.16 built by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works in 1997. 5000 hp.)
  • WAP 7 (Same design as WAG 9 with modified gear ratio. Highly powerful class. 6500 hp maximum, 6000 hp continuous. Tested for 180 kmph. Maximum permissible speed 140 kmph. Built by CLW since 2000)

                                    WHAT IS WAP7 LOCOMOTIVE  WAP7 HOWRAH (E.R) History :-  W AP 7  is a  locomotive  developed by  Chittaranjan Locomotive Works  by modifying the  gear ratio  of existing  WAG 9  class. It is capable of hauling trains at speeds ranging between 110 to 140 kilometres per hour (68 to 87 mph) and is now largely used by Northern Railways  (NR),  South Central Railways  (SCR),  Southern Railways  (SR),  Eastern Railways  (ER),  South East Central Railway  (SECR),  Central Railways  (CR),  Western Railway  (WR),  West Central Railways  (WCR). As of August,2016 there are 288 locomotives in service. WHAT IS VCD

                    VCD (VIGILANCE CONTROL DEVICE) V igilance control device ( VCD ) is one of the most safety item for locomotive. You have to operate locomotive continuously by notch UP-DOWN or press vcd push button switch,pressing sanding foot switch while running, otherwise after 60 second VCD SYSTEM gives you a warnig by glowing vcd CAB UNIT warning light for 8 second if you don't acknowledge this by pressing vcd push button switch then after completing 8 second,vcd warning light glows with a buzzer sounding for 8 second, if you don't acknowledge this time too then penalty brake activated and notch will be regress autometically,BP(BRAKE PRESSUR) will drop and auto flasher glows and locomotive will stop running autometically.
